Welcome to Collyhurst Nursery School and Group 5 Children’s Centres. I hope this website will help you to understand what makes our school and centres so special. We are an outstanding Local Authority maintained nursery school offering places to 2, 3 and 4 year olds. We work very closely with our families to ensure that these vital first steps to education are of the highest quality. Our nursery school class is taught by fully qualified teachers and all of our teaching rooms are supported by a team of highly skilled teaching assistants.

We provide an effective, nurturing environment for all where your child can grow into an independent, self-confident and caring member of the community and feel prepared for the next stage in their educational journey. This is such an important time for your child, where they begin to develop their personalities, expand their minds and learn about themselves.

We pride ourselves in our provision of challenging, stimulating and motivational indoor and outdoor learning through play, in a safe and caring environment where we meet the needs of every child. We believe that our teaching approach delivers excellence and supports mindfulness. Observational evidence clearly shows that children feel at ease, act spontaneously, show vitality and self-confidence; all of which indicate that their emotional well-being is being cared. Our teaching approach focuses on supporting the development of children who are self-confident and mentally healthy, curious and exploratory, expressive and communicative, imaginative and creative, full of initiative with a strong sense of belonging.

We support their physical needs, the needs for tenderness and affection, the need for safety, clarity, the need for social recognition. We also ensure that the need to feel competent and the need for moral values are satisfied. The importance of which is at the heart of Ferre Leavers’ research into experiential education which is at the heart of our practice.

We lead a hub of three Children’s Centres across North Manchester where we offer facilities and services for all our families. Here at Collyhurst, we pride ourselves in the fact that we know and care for our children and their families; they are at the heart of everything we do. In order to achieve the very best, our children and families must be confident that the school, centres and home are working together to celebrate achievements, to support them through difficulties and to raise aspirations.

All of our staff team are dedicated to our children and work incredibly hard to enable them to discover their true potential. We are extremely proud of the many achievement of the children, staff, families and all in our community. We are a special place because the people within our school are special. If you would like your child to join us then please call in and experience our wonderful and happy atmosphere for yourself!
